NY signed into law the Fair Play Act. The law presumes that individuals working for an employer are employees unless they meet certain conditions. Substantial penalties exist for willfully violating the Fair Play Act. If your company uses independent contractors you should review the Fair Play Act at www.labor.ny.gov.
